The Toyota Innova Crysta has an imposing design with solid sidelines. In addition, there is a dual headlight unit with spotlights on higher variants. The Innova Crysta is 4735mm long, 1830mm wide and 1735mm high. The vehicle is fitted with 205/65 section rims mounted on 16-inch alloy rims for the lower variants and 215/55 section rims with 17-inch rims for the higher variants. The front suspension setup is a double wishbone with a torsion beam and a 4-link with coil spring in the rear. Braking is provided by a ventilated disc at the front and a drum at the bottom, which is surprising given the price of the vehicle.

The interiors of the Toyota Innova Crysta are significantly better than those of the Innova. Faux wood combined with an all-black theme for the dashboard, leather seats, and chrome accents adds to the cabin's premium feel. Touchscreen infotainment includes USB input, AUX, Bluetooth streaming and navigation, and steering wheel-mounted audio and phone controls. The touch screen is easy to use, even with gloves. The multi-information display also provides instant mileage, ECO portfolio, score, standard fuel consumption, empty distance, and other necessary information.

The Toyota Innova Crysta is powered by three engines, a 2694cc petrol, a 2393cc diesel and a 2755cc diesel. The power and torque generated by the petrol minivan is 163.7 hp at 5200 rpm and 245 Nm at 4000 rpm, while the smaller diesel engine produces 148 hp at 3400 rpm and 343 Nm between 1400 rpm and 2800 rpm. The larger unit produces 171.6 bhp at 3400 rpm and an impressive 360 Nm from 1200 rpm to 3400 rpm. The 2.8-litre is naturally more fun to drive, but it's also loud.

The Toyota Innova Crysta has a choice of a 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox, but only the 2.8-litre engine is offered with the automatic gearbox. The 6-speed manual offers smooth gear changes, but the shifter travel is quite long. The automatic unit takes a while to shift, and the engine runs at higher speeds while moving, which increases noise intrusion into the cabin—the manual transmission results in a quieter place due to the absence of the abovementioned problem.

The Toyota Innova Crysta comes with seven airbags, namely dual front, driver's knee, side and curtain airbags, ABS, Vehicle Stability Control and Hill Assist Control for higher variants. Base versions have ABS and dual front and knee airbags for the driver, but the remaining functionality has been lost.

The Innova Crysta, in its petrol avatar, has a certified mileage of 9.89 km/l for the manual gearbox option. On the other hand, the diesel variants have a higher figure with a certified fuel efficiency of 15.1 km/l for the 2.4-litre version and 14.3 km/l for the 2.8-litre version, respectable figures considering the weight and the size of the Innova Crysta.
